Welcome to our new forum, everyone! Are you comfortable already? Yes? Excellent. Let us start with our first contest.
THE CONTEST: SHADOW-STEPPING ETRANGER
[niconico]sm13434014[/niconico]
The Song:
Shadow-Stepping Etranger (影踏みエトランゼ), also known as Kagefumi Etranger, is substreet's first Vocaloid song, and it definely made an impact - it was in the Vocaloid Charts for three weeks, staying at Place 2 for two weeks. Uploaded late January 2011, Shadow-Stepping Etranger is still his most watched video.

Your Task:
Fire up your favorite Project DIVA game, it's time to make a PV! You may use anything possible in PD's Edit Mode, including DLC. When you are done, upload the files from your Memory Stick, and create a topic in this forum. As soon the deadline has passed, you won't be able to edit your post anymore, and we will judge your PVs. There are prizes for the winners and even for lucky others!
There are hardly any limitations, so be creative! You could tell a story with your PV, use the classic "standing on stage and dancing" approach or do something never seen before. You aren't even limited to Miku, just use another character - you aren't even limited to the costumes available for the character, as we allow Custom DLC!

Here's some help: Here's a base edit for PD1 (uses Slot 39) - just convert it to PD2 or PDe, if necessary. The song has 218 BPM, and the offset is -0m00s581. (if you find a better offset, please tell us!)

Hung from earphones
Scowling
Left alone, I exhaled that breath
An already-bitten chocolate
Eaten by somebody else
"Those lying stars
will start to flow around"

Kicking small rocks
Sending them in the darkness
"The lying moon
watches our tiny world"

Where should I go next?
Leaving behind these heavy chains
Where am I heading to?
Taking off my shoes

That hoarse voice
Looking for the dark and cold hand
This grey world
Leaves me breathless
If I'll get it
That fish would swim without problems
And from the bottom of the sea
He will laugh at the cold earth!

Quiet
Yet clearly-heard footsteps
Seeing that tiny smile
I wonder if I'm still dreaming
Who said?
"I can't live by myself"
The one who said that
Is totally blind

How many times did I cry
When you yelled at me?
My eyelids burn
From that world
Looking at that small garden
I feel weak
I hold out my hand
But I can't touch

Standing alone in the cold
That Light reaches me
Blocking my ear
I live flying
What are you thinking of?
Countless emotions destroyed
Aren't you going to do something?
These hands and feet of mine are still moving

That hoarse voice
Looking for the dark and cold hand
This grey moonlight
Leaves me breathless
This darkness melts my body
Together with my heart
Quietly, carefully
Step on their shadow

We just added a base edit to the first post. It just contains the BPM and offset, so if you are lazy and can't be bothered to take a few seconds to set it, here you go! :D

I would have so loved to participate in this contest, but the timing couldn't have come at a worse time. I'm busy with rl stuff and my own self-imposed projects. Two weeks is just too short of time for me to come up with anything decent. I look forward to seeing the imagination of master editors come to fruition. :)

Awww :(
But hey, we might add a week or two to the time limit if enough people want an extension. After all, the extend Event was a month long if I remember correctly, so half of that is a quite big difference.

Well, if it is extended I would reconsider participating. That means I need to jump on it soon if I'll be able to complete it on time...but I would only jump on it soon if I knew it was being extended... XD

If I do end up participating, a couple questions:

1) I don't think I would, but just in case, is it ok to alter the BPM?
2) May I begin the edit on Bar 3? I like to leave a little leeway of "blank" footage for future video editing purposes.

I think both sound a bit odd, but if you have a good reason you may go ahead :p

That happens when the media player on your PC intercepts it. Right click the link and choose "Save Link As..." instead, and it will work!

Updated the first post with a better offset. If you just make a PV, the old one is accurate enough, but for notesheets you might want to you use this one.

I'm taking a crack at an edit. But with a little more than a week left, I don't know if I'll be able to finish in time. But I'm going to try!

However, just getting it set up I'm running into tempo issues.

The BPM in the edit file provided is correctly set for 218. However, by the end of the song, there's a timing shift of about half a beat where the mp3 lags slightly behind Project DIVA's internal clock. Changing the BPM in the edit is too course an adjustment. So the only other solution is to do a very fine tempo shift to the mp3.

I found shifting the tempo by -.065%, or shortening the song by -.16 seconds (242.08 seconds to 241.92 seconds) lined it up correctly with Project Diva's internal clock.

I also adjusted the edit start time offset to be +0.330.

So my question is this; is it ok to modify the mp3 file for the sake of tempo alignment? This means I would have to submit my version of the mp3 file with the edit, otherwise it would not stay in sync with the original mp3 provided online.

Here's a link to the modified mp3 file if you wish to inspect it.
Had to remove the link, german law... :/ -Suyo

Please let me know.

Thanks!

I just tried it here, but it seemed completly off-beat. Well, timing edits are allowed, so do whatever you want, I won't stop you.
EDIT: Remember though - you can't upload the edited MP3, players will have to do it themselves.

Also the sample edit is outdated, I forgot about it... I posted a new offset, will update it in a minute

to bypass the german law you could upload the song on youtube and users would be able to DL it with youtube downloaders or on video2mp3.net

Well what would YouTube say about the removed link:

"The link is no longer available because the copyright in your country just suck. Sorry about that."

Did you change the offset to +0.330 (+, not -)? It's right on the beat for me, at least for the most part. It's strange, I got the beginning and end of the song synced up, but the middle gets slightly off again, maybe like by 1/4 beat. It's just the nature of the song. I can work around it, so it's not a huge problem. For me, it still works much better than the original file. Either way, the edit file will have it set up correctly.

If I can't post the edited mp3 file, I can post instructions of how to edit it with Audacity which is actually very easy to do. :)

Alright, we're getting close to the end! Here's a countdown to tell you how much time you have left (in case it works right and displays the correct time no matter which timezone you are in):

Oh NOOO!! I thought I had 3/18 Sunday to wrap it up and submit it sometime in the evening/night. As it stands now, I'm in the Pacific time zone which means my deadline is 5am early Sunday morning! But weekends is the time I have available to work on it (I work a full time job during the week).

Is there any way I can submit it sometime by Sunday evening/night (Pacific time)? I'd hate to submit a half-baked entry....well, I think it's still gonna be half-baked by Sunday night...but at least not as bad. XD I was really really counting on Sunday to finish things up and put the spit and polish on it. You've already been gracious enough to grant an extension, I hope I'm not asking too much for just a few more hours...

Maybe it was a good thing that I thought I'd have to have it done by 5am Sunday morning. I wasn't sure if the deadline would be extended or not so I stayed up pretty much all night working feverishly to get it done.

It still has some rough spots but I'm confident it will be done by sometime tomorrow (Sunday PST) for sure.

So I appreciate the extension. Thank you!

I just hope I'm not the only one who will be submitting... XD
