Last night: Nintendo announced their plans to discontinue Nintendo eShop services for Nintendo 3DS & Wii U: https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/57847 May 23rd, it will no longer be possible to add funds to a 3DS/Wii U eShop wallet directly via Credit Card August 29, it will no longer be possible to add funds to a 3DS/Wii U wallet via a prepaid card. Until the planned cutoff date in March 2023 it will be possible to add funds with a combined wallet if your Nintendo Network ID is linked with your Nintendo Account on your Switch. + this website tracking your supposed favorite games from both systems: https://my-nintendo-3ds-wiiu-memories.nintendo.com/ For the 3DS in particular this means that services like the Nintendo Badge Arcade, Theme Shop, and DLC purchasing will be discontinued on top of the eShop closure. Thankfully Pokémon Bank services on 3DS will be free to use for those who had yet to transfer all them Pocket Monsters from the following games to Pokémon Home. Pokémon X Pokémon Y Pokémon Omega Ruby Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Pokémon Sun Pokémon Moon Pokémon Ultra Sun Pokémon Ultra Moon and the following games via Poké Transfer: Pokémon Black (DS) Pokémon White (DS) Pokémon Black 2 (DS) Pokémon White 2 (DS) Pokémon Red (Virtual Console/All Languages) Pokémon Blue (Virtual Console/All Languages) Pokémon Yellow (Virtual Console/All Languages) Pokémon Gold (Virtual Console/All Languages) Pokémon Silver (Virtual Console/All Languages) Pokémon Crystal (Virtual Console/All Languages) Naturally this means the [supposedly inferior] Project Mirai series is on the chopping block as well as the associated HOME Menu themes available for purchase in the Theme Shop. If you happen own a European or Japanese 3DS, there’s also DWANGO’s Official HOME Menu themes dedicated to entire VOCALOID songs that I’m not going to list off. (remember those?) I’ll at least say this; This is a better, albeit bittersweet, send-off compared to SONY’s initial plans to kill off almost everything in 5 months.
Maybe when you get the chance; maybe give Mighty Milky Way a shot: A DSiWare title made by WayForward (of Shantae, WWF Betrayal, Smurfs 2, DuckTales Remastered, Contra 4, Batman Brave & The Bold, Spongebob SquigglePants, River City Girls and Advance Wars 1 + 2 ReBoot Camp fame) with music composed by Jake ‘Virt’ Kaufman. (of Shovel Knight fame) who also made the main theme for a game about a French Alien Girl named Luna using an uncredited Megurine Luka (I’m not kidding)
