The E3 trailer. Looks like they've made progress.

 

Still not liking the fact that they're using Romaji for the lyrics. Crossing fingers they add an English option at least when they release it.

Wait? Wasn't the demo for the game before it in English too? I wouldn't understand why would they release a demo of the Japanese version to showcase for the English release. Especially since all they needed to translate were the menu, title, and lyrics.

I don't know what was on the original Japanese demo but from what I can see, they have easy to hard mode but no extreme and the songs are Decorator, The World is Mine, and Doubleganger/Spoofing Genga.

 

What exactly is with SpoofingGenga's English title? What's a Doublegangar? It sounds like doppelganger so is it a pun off of that? What a weird translation choice.
And while we're at it, was it really necessary to make Two-Breaths Walking's title so lengthy? Why the original title next to it?

 

Let me try to puzzle it out.

Spoofing = to imitate
Genga could also be pronounced as Gengar. But it probably also could romanize as Ganger.
Genga, however can be defined as original image, so it's "imitating an original image"

Doubleganger is apparently an actual English word. Although the definition is "half-translation of German Doppelgänger"

Doppelganger defines as " a ghostly duplicate of a living person". So basically an imitation of an existing person.

So "imitation of original image" = "imitation of person"? That's my reasoning for it.


For Two Breaths Walking. If you look at the trailer, it is localized as Two Breaths Walking. The title in the Flickr image was probably one of the names they were deciding to call it and serves as a placeholder before changing it.


Anyways, Sega did say that they discuss with every producer about the localization of the songs names. If the producer refuses or prefers it to call something else, then Sega goes by what the producer says. So it's not like they did it without some reason. At least, that's the case with F.

It's weird that they'd use an extremely uncommon word for the title when they could use the more common one, which would also make much more sense. I've never heard ANYONE say doublegangar, but I've heard everyone say doppelganger.

In fact if you think about it, I guess なりすましゲンガー could translate better as Doppelgänger rather than the common Spoofing Genga, especially due to the fact that genga is actually spelled ゲンガ and the song spells it as ゲンガー which comes from the word ドッペルゲンガー (doppelgänger), they have the same meaning but due to the ー it changes when it's used. Why isn't this the more common translation in YT vids?

I really hope they change the title to Doppelganger/Doppelgänger.

I never realized they did this. Then that means that Kowase Kowase will most likely be translated as "Break it! Break it!" WOOT! Sounds so much more powerful than Destroy Destroy.

 

Aw, I liked the original challenge item names! I don't think there could possibly be a better name than Panic for what that item is.

 

Yes, well don't forget. Official English Title "Online Game Addicts Sprechchor" vs Localized English Title "The MMORPG Addicts Anthem".

If E.L.V.N decides to say yes to the localized title immediately if it's not Break it! Break it without giving a title she prefers, it might end up as Destroy Destroy or something else along the lines.

Also, what's with the link breaking after quoting?

 

Well the title of that was probably recommended by SEGA when the author asked for their title, in which they probably said sure due to the fact that not many English speakers know that a Sprechchor is a chant. Break it! Break it! is a pretty good title in terms of understanding so I don't see why SEGA would recommend anything else (assuming SEGA asks the author what they want first).

 

For me, only positive factor is price (probably 50 ou 60 US$).
