We are using IRC for our chat! Connect to irc.greencouchgames.net:6667 with your favorite IRC Client! Channel: #projectdiva Recommended IRC Clients are XChat, mIRC, ChatZilla and Quassel (Google helps). Some little tips for IRC Beginners: - Join a new channel by typing /join #channel - for example, /join #anime will get you into the anime channel. Invite more people to a certain channel to get a discussion going! - Register your nickname on the IRC server by typing /ns register PASSWORD EMAIL, to make sure no one impersonates you. Don't forget to login next time you join the chat by typing /ns identify PASSWORD.
Re: A new chat! We're going IRC! would it be possible to implement the new chat into the chatbox and some kind of remote access? (Means, everything posted in the chatbox will be posted by a Bot into the IRC.) i think irc is kinda difficult to handle for some users here.
Re: A new chat! We're going IRC! Nah, I think IRC is pretty simple, especially if you just click this link to quick-join with Mibbit: http://widget00.mibbit.com/?settings=af ... erTab=true User Auth is currently being replaced by a more simple method, so it's down right now and you can join any way you like for now, so just click that link and you're in the new chat.
Re: A new chat! We're going IRC! Joining just became even simpler. All you have to do now is visit the Activation page, hit Activate, and join the chat with the link on the top. I'll also edit the first post in a second with a bit of info!
Re: A new chat! We're going IRC! Fixed a bug which affected a few users, it should now work exactly as advertised, for everyone!
Aww, I still loved the original chatbox <3 Anyways I am on cloud 39 today I just got my project diva f :D Activating IRC is quite challenging to me. Like, i never got accustomed to activating processes or something like this :x
I tried to join the channel but i get a "(Activate your account first. Check http://greencouchgames.net/irc for more info.)" when connecting to the server (both irc client app and mibbit). Any ideas? And yes, i activated the account already.
@DIVA: You are already the auth list, it should work fine. Remember you need a triple underscore in your name (Miku___DIVA)! @code and Oliver: Seems like you didn't actually start the activation process, you were missing in the queue. I added you to it manually just now, it should be processed soon (about 8 minutes).
OK, i can connect now. BTW, the activation page asked me to create a password but i just tried to connect without it and it worked. So, whats the password for?
Passwords in IRC are so you can kick yourself if you get disconnected and your account remains logged in, or so you can kick someone else who has taken your username.
It wasn't a nickserv pass since i just set up that yesterday, but it doesn't matter now anyway, i suppose that it was part of the old activation method.
Weird. I figured it was a more recent thing. I don't remember being asked for one when I did the activation a short while back.
Yes, the password was still in the first version of the authentication module. The entire code didn't work back then for some people, so I guess that's why you couldn't get into the IRC.
It's time for a new addition! B-O-T will now be joining #main and #projectdiva. His main task is to tell you the last ten messages in a channel when you join it. I hope that makes it more similar to the old on-site chat where discussions were running even though only one person was on at a time - so now you can join, leave a message and everybody will still be able to read it. Apart from that, the bot will also have a few additional commands, which will be added over time. Type !help to see what he can do But remember: there can't be any discussion without people, so if you join, see no one is online and instantly leave, there is no chance there will be anyone on. We don't want the history to be the only way of talking, right?
We have a new Authentication System for the IRC now. We had to get the pasword back in because of impersonation issues, but made it a lot simpler: The password is written down at the end of the nickname you use to connect, gets checked, and removed before moving on into the chat. You will have to reactivate your account - go to the first post, click the link, hit Activate, and copy the nickname exactly as shown. Best to also save it somewhere, since the password is only shown once for security reasons (want me to change that?). This is the name you enter to connect, and will also authenticate you at the same time. There's still a little wacky behaviour, especially if you time out and try to rejoin instantly. Might break the server. If your internet screws up and you get kicked, please wait at least 5 minutes. Also, chat has been getting slightly more active lately. Stop by if you have some time!
I just fixed three huge bugs with the new auth feature, and it seems to be pretty stable right now. I should check for null pointers more often. Also, presenting the newest function of IRC: Auto-kick. If you connect with the correct name and password, any chatters who happen to have the same name as you get a free flight to Jupiter, and you replace them instantly. Very useful if your internet stops for a second and you get kicked from IRC, but you can't instantly rejoin because of your "corpse" still being on the server.
