Back when we just started the forums, we had a on-site chat for a while, until they started pricing the service and we left for IRC instead, removing the convenience of chatting straight from the site, which resulted in a very noticeable drop in activity. But we're finally bringing it back! A HUGE shoutout to xtokashx, whose extremely generous donation made this possible! The new on-site chat is basically an embedded IRC client on the forums, so if you prefer, you can still use your own IRC client (there's instructions if you hit the link in the top right of the chat). If you want to join via another client or don't want the site chat for other reasons, go to your display options, and set "Show IRC Chat" to no:
Whoa, you guys blew through the account limit I set in just one day. I'm right now increasing it to three times the number, and I'm also investigating the crashes during the night. For those who just recently signed up and thus went past the limit, you should be able to join in about half an hour. EDIT: Okay, I just removed the authentication module. It's been having even more problems than usual, so now, it's an open IRC server - that means no account limit, no password at the end of the name. To get the on-site chat, you still need to activate your account, though.
Alright, I just brought the Site Chat back from it's odd death, and also fixed (?) a bug where Chrome users couldn't connect at all. This was the only big problem holding public release back, so now everyone gets a free chat! If you don't want it, check the first post to see how to disable it.
